The cushion cut diamond measures 8.43 x 6.46 x 4.06 mm so it has a length-to-width ratio of 1.30. Cushion cut diamonds come in various shapes from those almost square (length to width ratio 1.05 or less) to very rectangular (ratio 1.30 or more) to everything in between. The classic pillow shape tends to have ratios in the 1.10 to 1.20 range. This cushion cut diamond has a 62.8% depth percentage and a 58% table percentage. For cushion-cut diamonds, we recommend a depth of 59-69% and table of 50-65% with smaller percentages generally producing bigger size for the carat weight and better cut.

The cushion cut diamond was one of the most popular cuts of diamonds of all time. From approximately 1830 to the turn of the century the cushion shape was simply how diamonds were cut. The cushion cut diamond is a generic label for the Old Mine Cut, developed before the turn of the century. Older cushion cut diamonds return light in blocky patterns while the modern cut diamonds return light in a needlelike pattern, usually with smaller culets. The sparkle, brilliance and beauty of the cushion cut has more to do with the skill of the cutter fashioning the facets than it does with the choice of one of three basic facet patterns. In the past ten years, there has been a resurgence in the popularity of the cushion cut diamond shape. An interesting fact of the cushion cut is that it is one of the most popular shapes for fancy colored diamonds because the shape displays the color evenly throughout the diamond.

This cushion diamond is carefully set with four split prongs in a Solitaire style head. The knife-edge style shank (band around the finger) typically measures 2.5 mm, but the width can be increased if a wider band is desired. This Solitaire setting is set at a great height to display the brilliance and sparkle while protecting the cushion brilliant diamond. The split prongs add a touch of detail and elegance to this simplistic diamond setting.

The Solitaire style setting provides a time enduring, classic look, which highlights this stunning cushion, cut diamond. A Solitaire mounting is a great option for a woman looking for classic elegance. It is also a nice choice for a man who is not quite sure of what “she” is looking for in a mounting. You can have a surprise proposal with a gorgeous diamond ring even if you only know her favorite diamond shape. The cushion brilliant diamond should be your focus since it is the centerpiece and the main investment.
