Shield Cut Diamonds Shape

 Shield cut diamonds

Shield Cut diamonds have a somewhat triangular shape with the top side bowed and the two other "sides" composed of two bowed edges. The overall shape resembles the shields used by warriors throughout history.

 Shield side diamonds

Shield cut diamonds are used as side stones for rings where their wide end is fitted next to the center stone and the pointed end runs down the shank of the ring.

 Shield diamond earrings

Because of their unique shape, shield cut diamonds can be used for dangle earrings and pendants.

Several of the world's most famous diamonds are shield shaped. These shield cut diamonds include the Guinea Star (89 carat D-Internally Flawless modified shield), the Moussaieff Red (5.11 carat that is the largest Fancy Red color diamond, shown at right below) and the Sancy (pale yellow 55.23-carat shield-shaped stone, apparently of Indian origin, and is said to be one of the first large diamonds to be cut with symmetrical facets, shown at left below).
