The cushion cut shape was one of the most popular cuts of diamonds ever. From approximately 1830 to the turn of the century, the cushion shape was simply how diamonds and gemstones were cut. The cushion cut shape is a generic name for the Old Mine Cut, developed before the turn of the century. The older cushion cut diamonds and gemstones return light in blocky patterns while the modern cut stones return light in a needlelike pattern, usually with smaller culets. The sparkle, brilliance and beauty of the cushion shape have more to do with the skill of the cutter fashioning the facets than with the choice of one of three basic facet patterns. In the past ten years, there has been a revival in the popularity of the cushion cut shape. Interestingly, cushion cut diamonds are one of the most popular shapes for fancy colored diamonds because the shape displays the color evenly throughout the stone.

The custom Bez Ambar diamond ring displays the spectacular cushion cut brilliant pink sapphire with two rows of knife-edge pave diamonds. The knife-edge refers to two rows of pave diamonds. One row frames the center cushion cut diamond while the second row angles down towards the shank. This mounting style is exceptional because it gracefully frames the cushion shape pink sapphire and provides sparkle from every angle. The double diamond frame is a stunning way to set this large stone elegantly. Diamonds flow down each of the six bridges making up the basket. The pave diamonds gently curve up from the three split-shank and stop at the knife-edge frame. The diamonds go three quarters of the way around the shank so that this ring can be resized if necessary in the future. This Bez Ambar custom diamond ring displays world-class craftsmanship with pave and design second to none.
