The GIA considers a length-to-width ratio of 1.05 or less square in shape . The princess cut diamond has a 71.4% depth percentage and a 77% table percentage. For princess-cut diamonds, we recommend a depth of 58-76% and table of 58-77% with smaller percentages generally producing bigger size for the carat weight and better cut.

The princess cut diamond is the second most popular diamond shape but is one of the most difficult shapes to set. The corners of the princess diamond come to points and are rather fragile. The prongs have to be carefully formed to hug the sides of the corners and the prongs are gently shaped over the top of the corners to secure the princess diamond in the 14 karat white gold mounting.
The half moon diamonds measure 4.33 x 2.54 x 1.95 mm. The first number is the flat base of the moon that is set next to the princess cut diamond, the second number is the height of the diamond from the base to the curved edge and the third number is the depth of the diamond. The base of the half moon diamond should be a little shorter than the length of the adjacent center stone to allow the prongs holding the base corners of the half moon diamond to fit inside the prongs holding the princess cut diamond. From the picture you can see there are four prongs which protect the half moon shaped diamonds without overwhelming the appearance with too much metal. This is a sign of careful artisanship.
