Cushion Cut Diamond Ring: 1.02 carat with 1.19 ratio and 0.38 tcw Tapered Baguettes

The cushion cut diamond measures 6.75 x 5.63 x 3.50 mm so it has a length-to-width ratio of 1.19. Cushion cut diamonds come in various shapes from those almost square (length to width ratio 1.05 or less) to very rectangular (ratio 1.30 or more) to everything in between. The classic pillow shape tends to have ratios in the 1.10 – 1.20 range. The cushion cut diamond has a 62.2% depth percentage and a 58% table percentage. For cushion-cut diamonds, we recommend a depth of 59-69% and table of 50-65% with smaller percentages generally producing bigger size for the carat weight and better cut.

This beautiful cushion cut diamond ring has a 1.02 carat cushion brilliant diamond with 0.38 total carat weight of matched tapered baguette diamonds set in a custom mounting with an 18-karat white gold basket and an 18-karat yellow gold shank.

Cushion and Tapered Baguette Diamond Ring

The cushion cut diamond was one of the most popular cuts of diamonds ever. For more than 70 years from 1830 to the turn of the century, this was just how diamonds were cut. The cushion cut diamond is a generic name for the Old Mine Cut, created before the turn of the century. The older cushion shape diamonds return light in blocky patterns while the modern cut stones return light in a needlelike pattern, usually with smaller culets. The sparkle and brilliance of the cushion cut diamond has more to do with the skill of the diamond cutter fashioning the facets than it does with the choice of one of three basic facet patterns. In the past ten years, there has been an increase in the popularity of the cushion cut diamond shape. The cushion shape is one of the most popular shapes for fancy colored diamonds because the shape displays the color evenly throughout the stone.

A tapered baguette is a relatively small, elongated diamond where the two long sides taper inward to form a long trapezoidal shape. The word “baguette” is a French word for a long, narrow loaf of bread. The tapered baguette is a set cut with the classic elegance of the emerald shape and not the sparkle of brilliant cuts. The simple, geometric shape has a classic sheen to it and is a good contrast with brilliant cut shapes that have more fire and sparkle. The understated look of the tapered baguette lends itself to use as matched side stones flanking rounds, ovals, princess and other classic shapes.

The diamonds are set in a custom mounting designed for these specific diamonds and the client’s finger size. The best three stone diamond rings are custom made so that the side diamonds fit snugly next to the center diamond and appear as non-stop diamonds across the finger when viewed from the top. The four-split prong basket style head holding the center stone provides a durable and secure base for the diamond. The basket is crafted from 18-karat white gold with an 18-karat yellow gold shank.

The combination of the cushion shape diamond and tapered baguette diamonds is particularly attractive to those who like the soft pillow shape of the cushion finished off with the classic lines of the tapered baguette. This ring showcases a great contrast between the brilliance in the cushion diamond and the step cut look of the tapered baguettes.
